Admission Orders

Provide Name, Age, Wt(kg), Allergies

  1. Admit to the Pediatric Unit
  2. Condition: stable or critical
  3. Diagnosis: Pneumonia
  4. Vitals continuous x 24hr, then if stable q4h. Monitor closely for respiratory distress
  5. Allergies: (List all)
  6. Nursing O2 to maintain sat>92%. Adjust flow based on continuous monitoring
  7. Diet Breastfeeding or age-appropriate formula feeding as tolerated. NGT feeding if oral intake is insufficient
  8. IVF maintenance rate for age and weight, unless contra. Monitor I/O carefully
  9. Studies:
    • Chest X-ray (PA, LAT) now
  10. Medication
    • Antibiotic IV: i.e. Amoxicillin IV, wt-based dosing for a duration determined by clinical response/guidelines
    • Fever/Pain Acetaminophen q6h prn
    • Bronchodilators for history of wheeze, or asthma
    • Nebulizer med treatments
  11. Activity
  12. Labs
    • CBC, CRP, BC x2, consider sputum sample for gram stain, culture and sensitivity
    • Viral panel for RSV and influenza

  1. Special
    • Droplet precautions until infection cause identified or excluded
    • Physiotherapy
    • Consult respiratory therapy
    • Patient education
    • DC planning
    • F/U at pediatric clinic within 48-72hr of discharge
